HEADLINE: LOCAL TEENS PARTICIPATE IN HSEC SCIENTIFIC STUDY TO EVALUATE EDUCATIONAL GAMES.

Santa Cruz, California, December 12, 2002 – San Lorenzo Valley Teen Center and Gateway School teens are eager this week to stay after school -- to participate in scientific user studies designed by the Health Software Evaluation Center (HSEC) which allow teens an opportunity to assist in the development of an on-line game promoting health and smoking cessation.

“We’re very pleased to host the Health Software Evaluation Center for its tests of MedicalWorks’ software. The majority of our teens either smoke or have tried cigarettes. If game software can assist our students in quitting smoking, that would be great,” said Amy Hoppin, SLV Teen Center Administrator. “Our students see this opportunity to participate in HSEC’s user studies as a chance to contribute to something important and that helps build their self esteem.”

The Santa Cruz County teen user studies are the latest evaluations performed by the HSEC for MedicalWorks Inc., a health-focused game software company based in Scotts Valley, California. As a nonprofit organization, the HSEC was hired by MedicalWorks to provide unbiased scientific measurement of the effectiveness of MedicalWorks’ latest online gaming experience in which teens assist each other to stop smoking through chat and mini-games. The HSEC is a leader in performing evaluations that scientifically prove the effectiveness of health and medical software products for such companies as MedicalWorks Inc.

Focus Studies are being held through December and January in cooperation with the SLV Teen Center and Gateway School. For more information regarding these studies or about the HSEC, website at www.HSEConline.com.
